Frequently asked questions

What is the teacher pay rise for 2026?

The School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2026 raises every pay range and advisory point from 1 September 2026: M1 outside London goes from £32,916 to £34,069, and U3 from £51,048 to £52,835. The School Teachers' Pay and Conditions (England) Order 2026 comes into force on 6 November 2026 and back-dates the new ranges to 1 September 2026, and the calculator uses them. A further 3% from 1 September 2027 was accepted in the same written statement (HCWS171, 1 July 2026) and is applied once its own Document is published.

Which pay scale does the calculator use?

The advisory pay points in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document for the current pay year — STPCD 2026, valid from 1 September 2026 — taken from its Annex 3 and cross-checked against the statutory main and upper pay range minima and maxima in the same Document. Every figure is transcribed from the Document itself, not calculated by applying the announced award to last year's scale, because the pound amounts are set by the Document.

Does this cover every school?

It covers the advisory classroom-teacher pay points for maintained schools in England. Academies may set their own pay, and leadership, leading-practitioner, SEN and teaching-and-learning responsibility payments are not included unless you enter them as additional pensionable pay. M2 to M5 and U2 are advisory points, so a school may pay a different salary between the range minimum and maximum.

How is Teachers' Pension deducted?

The calculator selects the member contribution tier that applies from 1 April 2026 using total pensionable pay. Contributions receive payroll tax relief, but do not reduce National Insurance or student-loan repayment earnings.

Why is this an annualised figure?

The scale shown applies from 1 September 2026. Results show a full 12 months at that rate, rather than a blended total for a tax year that straddles two pay scales.

When will the September 2027 figures appear here?

As soon as the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2027 is published. The accepted 3% award is not applied to today's pay points in advance, because only the Document sets the pound amounts.
